Product name checker
Check the product names you already have
Already have a few names in mind? Add up to 10 at a time with a sentence about the product. Each one is scored on the same criteria, with the reasons shown, so you can see which names are stronger and why. It's a practical assessment, not a legal clearance check, and every result says what hasn't been checked.
How it works
1. Describe
A sentence or two about the product, so fit and meaning can be judged.
2. Add names
Up to 10 names you're considering, one per line or separated by commas.
3. Compare
See every name scored side by side, with strengths, concerns and anything that caps a score.
An example
What's checked
- Clear. Is it easy to say, spell and type after hearing it once?
- Memorable. Is it likely to stick after one or two hearings?
- Distinctive. Does it stand apart from competitors and generic category words?
- Fit. Does it suit what the product does, and does it hint at something useful?
- Room to grow. Will it still work if the product does more later?
- Serious problems. An offensive reading or a near-copy of a competitor you named caps the score, so it can't be averaged away by strengths elsewhere.
What it doesn't do
- Free results check whether each name's .com, .co.uk, .net and .org domains are registered, but no other domains and no trade mark register: trade mark criteria are left out of the free score and listed as not checked.
- The paid Full Assessment adds live domain checks and UK trade mark screening (in preview: until a licensed data provider is connected, its results are labelled sample data, not the real register). Buying Full Assessments is coming soon.
- It doesn't check Companies House, app stores or social handles.
- It can't tell you a name is safe to use. For a name you're about to invest in, follow how to check a name for UK trade marks and consider a trade mark attorney.
Questions
How is the score worked out?
Each name is assessed on a set of criteria, grouped and weighted, and serious problems cap the score. How NameClicked scores a name explains the criteria, weights and rules.
Can I check just one name?
Yes, though it's more useful with two or three: seeing names scored side by side makes the trade-offs clearer.
Is this the same as the CLICKED Test?
The CLICKED Test is a seven-question way to judge a name yourself. NameClicked's assessment covers most of the same ground automatically, with the reasons shown.
