About NameClicked
NameClicked helps people find, evaluate and compare names for products, apps, websites, services and startups. It combines structured name evaluation with practical checks such as domain availability and UK trade mark screening.
Who builds it
NameClicked is built and run by Incyworks Ltd. Its naming guides are written by Phil Martin.
Why it exists
Naming decisions are usually made on gut feel, a long brainstorm or a generator that produces hundreds of names with no judgement attached. Then the practical problems turn up late: a taken domain, a similar trade mark, a name nobody can spell. NameClicked exists to bring those questions forward, so people can choose a name with their eyes open and enjoy the moment it clicks.
How the evaluation works
Every name is judged on three questions: is it a good name, can I get it, and can I build on it? Around twenty criteria feed those scores. Each criterion shows where its evidence came from: rule-based checks of the name itself, an AI model's judgement of things rules can't measure, live data, or official registers. Serious problems cap a name's score so they can't be averaged away. The method is described in full in how NameClicked scores a name, and applied to our own name in our naming case study.
Important limitations
- NameClicked can help identify potential naming conflicts and areas to investigate further, but it is not a substitute for professional trade mark clearance or legal advice.
- Free results are preliminary: they don't search any registers, and they say which checks haven't run.
- Trade mark screening is in preview and uses sample data until a licensed data provider is connected.
- Social handles, app stores and Companies House aren't checked yet.
- Domain results show whether a domain is registered, not whether it's for sale or what it costs.
- AI judgements can be wrong. Treat them as one input alongside testing with real people.
