App name generator
Find an app name that people remember
Describe your app in a sentence or two. NameClicked generates around 20 names in different styles, drops the weak ones, and gives you a shortlist of 5, each scored with the reasons shown. You get names to choose from and a way to choose between them. 3 free sessions every 30 days, no account needed.
How it works
1. Describe
Say what the app does and who it's for. Add competitors or words to avoid if you have them.
2. Shortlist
Around 20 candidates in different styles are generated and filtered down to the strongest 5.
3. Decide
Compare the shortlist on the same criteria, add your own ideas, and keep the ones worth checking further.
An example
What makes a good app name
- Short enough for the home screen. Long names get cut off under the icon. One or two short words usually survive.
- Easy to say and spell. People recommend apps out loud. If they can't spell what they heard, they can't search for it.
- Distinct in the app stores. The App Store won't accept two apps with the same name, and a name close to a popular app competes with it for every search.
- Room to grow. A name tied to one feature can feel wrong once the app does more.
- No unwanted meanings. Each name is checked for negative, awkward or competitor-like readings.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't search the Apple App Store or Google Play, and it doesn't check social handles. Search those yourself for your favourite names.
- Free results check whether each name's .com, .co.uk, .net and .org domains are registered, but no other domains and no trade mark register: trade mark criteria are left out of the free score and listed as not checked.
- The paid Full Assessment adds live domain checks and UK trade mark screening (in preview: until a licensed data provider is connected, its results are labelled sample data, not the real register). Buying Full Assessments is coming soon.
- It can't guarantee a name is available or registrable, and it isn't legal advice.
Questions
Is it just a name generator?
No. Generating names is the easy part. NameClicked cuts weak ideas before you see them and scores the rest on the same criteria, so you can see why one name is stronger than another. You can also check names you already have.
Do I need an account?
No. You get 3 free sessions every 30 days without signing up. You only sign in, with your email, to keep projects across devices or run a Full Assessment.
Is my app idea kept private?
Yes. Your project isn't public or indexed. Your description is used only to generate and assess names, which means sending it to our AI provider, and it's never sent to analytics.
